We have had our new USI combo hard wired alarms installed for over a month now and we couldn't be happier! After YEARS of false alarms from our First Alert combo alarms, most often in the middle of the night with no perceptible triggers, we had grown weary and anxious. We decided to install new alarms and researched and found USI discussed in Consumer Reports. These alarms work well but have not been constantly triggered by shower steam from the bath or smells/smoke from cooking or a spider crawling on the lens. I'm finally able to go to sleep at night without anxiety that a false alarm will wake the whole house. The alarms DO work - when I really scorched something while cooking the alarm did go off - and was much easier to silence than our old ones. I'm glad I will not have to remember to replace the batteries every six months. My electrician asked me to let him know if they are good so he can recommend them to other clients so that's my next step. Meantime I can recommend them to anyone reading this review - they were money very well spent! I read that something like 70% of house fires involve disconnected fire alarms because people get tired of false alerts - save your family from potential tragedy by invested a few extra dollars not really, when you count the savings from a permanent battery in these excellent USI combo alarms.

I like the new USI dual Sensing Plus alarms. They can detect more types of fires and smoldering fires. They meet the New UL 217 8th Ed. Requirements which is great for resale. Hardwiring is easy with included pig tail for hardwiring. I needed several combination sensors with CO.

Invested in new detectors for whole house: hard wired smoke, smoke and CO with sealed battery backup, sealed battery smoke and CO. Had to rewire as different plug than older units. Took a few hours almost 20 units, but straightforward. Happy with decision, purchase, and products.
I only had one combination alarm. The other 5 were smoke detectors. But this one installed as easily as the other alarms, and they have been in a week so far without any problems. I'm happy to have the added protection this combination detector provides. It had been recommended by my local fire department to replace my old alarms with smoldering fire and open flame alarms.
