I wanted to have both photoelectric and ionization alarms in the same room but I did not want a combination type smoke detector. Although I could not connect another AC powered alarm to my houses smoke detector network, this alarm was easily installed because it is battery powered, not battery backed-up.
I purchased the PR700 over the previous unit because unlike the replaced unit this one has a replaceable battery and I prefer a fresh battery on a yearly basis.
This smoke alarm is very easy to install. It is designed well. This is my second alarm and I'll buy it in the future.
I desire an alarm with a replaceable battery because the permanent 10 year battery models have failed to last more than 3 or 4 years. This model PR700 is just what I want and seems to work as intended.
I tried this alarm after being dissatisfied with a different brand that I'd been using. The unit is in my kitchen and I'm hoping the photovoltaic version will result in fewer alarms, particularly when cooking bacon, which always set off my old one. This unit is thin and installation was easy.
