I'm serious about my humidifers and have tried many brands. The Honeywell HAC-504 is the best by far - and I measure humidity levels with a hygrometer. I've also tried to use the replacement filters for this that are NOT the Honeywell brand, and they are simply not as effective.
These seem to do the job with my honeywell humidifier. I use it in my kids' rooms.

Most of the time these filters work great, but sometimes they don't work and water levels don't change and humidity is too low. Not sure why this happens, but like I said, most of the time they work great! I run my machine 24/7/365.
